Google Enters the Energy Market

As all of us know very well, Google is becoming and is one of the largest corporations in the world, but still maintains it's friendly image. This can not be said for giants such as Microsoft and Wal-Mart. How do they do this one might ask? I recently read an article about Google "going green." It's about Google's efforts to minimize their carbon footprint and become completely self sufficient, and not only that, but they have invested millions upon millions of dollars in the research and development of renewable energy. Not only is that good publicity, but it's just another shining example of how Google is conscious of their ability to affect change within our society and not just become a profit hungry juggernaut.

It's efforts like this that make me feel good about using Google and it's many (Mainly Free) services. It a very forward looking company, and most stories I've heard about them are good ones. This is something that is very hard to achieve not only in a large company, but in society today. Google's interface has become so popular, in my view, mainly because of it's simplicity and it's ingenuity. The algorithms is undoubtedly complex, but it is also useful, because users can actually click on ad's that relate to what they have been looking for. This also allows Google to make money because people are actually interested in the advertisements. Before Google you could be flooded with unwanted pop-ups and unrelated banner ad's, but not on Google. I have also heard rumors of Google providing free wireless internet to the city of San Francisco, which is where the company is based out of. This is just another example of how Google looks to give back to the community in new, creative, and useful ways. Overall I feel that not only is Google a huge money maker and a good service provider, but I feel that I can relate to it as a consumers company, not some huge money hungry firm. Maybe it's because I haven't looked closely enough, or maybe I'm the minority, but I don't believe this to be true, and I am positive that Google will remain a friendly giant for many years to come.
